I’ve been apprehensive about posting this video for quite some time. Not that I have lofty ideals for this site which I think might be compromised if I posted a link to the acerbic Vice, but more because I feel a little intimidated by what the bunch of slackers managed to achieve with the short documentary.
Having managed to make their way into North Korea, they also obtained clips from some truly hard to find North Korean films, some remarkable facts about the North Korean film industry (which I’ve so far been unable to verify but I don’t really doubt) and also a fleeting interview with Choi Eun-hee, the wife of legendary director Shin Sang-ok.
The film is mad, bad and a lot of fun. So I hope you enjoy it as much as these guys enjoyed making it.

Unfortunately, the stories were broken up into small segments by the Daily Nk. Anyway it’s three separate texts dealing with various aspects of NK cinema. Two of the texts are about my personal involvement with NK cinema, the other is an interview with Italian director Ferdinando Baldi of “Ultimate Mission” fame.
